Three Film Sets You Need to Visit Right Now

It’s easy to dream about what it would be like to live in a world  where your favorite movie or TV show is filmed in. From Kings Landing in Game of Thrones (actually, it’s probably best if no one lived here) to Hogwarts in Harry Potter, here are three filming locations in real life that you MUST go visit now:

The Hobbit: Hobbiton Movie Set

Location: Matamata, New Zealand

The perfectly preserved movie set from Peter Jackson’s, The Hobbit Trilogy, is the number one movie set people go to visit, and for good reason. It is exactly the way Peter Jackson left the set so the land owners, who are farmers, can hold tours for visitors. The views are stunning and the story behind the set is impressive. When you’re done with your tour, you can finish up at The Green Dragon for a pint like a true hobbit!

Sidenote: The Original Hobbiton Movie Set was originally deconstructed after The Lord of The Rings Trilogy. When Peter Jackson decided to film The Hobbit Trilogy, he returned to the same site and reconstructed Hobbiton with permanent materials. Picture Below:

Here is a summary about the tour offered:

Experience the real Middle-Earth with a visit to the Hobbiton™ Movie Set, the bucolic setting for The Shire™ that featured in the Peter Jackson directed films, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Trilogies. Your tour starts with a drive through the picturesque 1,250 acre sheep farm with spectacular views across to the Kaimai Ranges. Your guide will escort you through the twelve acre site recounting fascinating details of how the Hobbiton Movie set was created. The Hobbit holes, Green Dragon™ Inn, Mill and other structures created for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films can be viewed and you will see how this beautiful piece of Waikato farmland was transformed into The Shire from Middle-Earth.
